The Jade Court is rather mysterious, based in ancient Chinese tradition with plenty of oddities that just never seem to add up to anyone looking at them from the outside. As the Jade Court has been left completely undefined by the Dresden Files books, we've elected to create our own here on Tenebrous Isles. Thus, we give you the Jade Court, a'la Tenebrous Isles!
Jade Court vampirism is a hereditary condition, passed on when interbreeding with humans or other fellow Jade Courtiers - and always breeding true. Rather than feeding on emotions like their White Court (distant) cousins or blood like the Black or Red Courtiers, Jade Court vampires feed on Chi, life force energy, but very specific types depending on the Jade Courtier.
The Jade Court is based strongly on the theory of Yin and Yang. Yin being the female, death-type energy where as Yang is the male, life-type energy. As such, all Jade Courtiers are born as a set of twins. The female of the set carries the Yin aspects and the male of the set carries the Yang aspects. While both twins are alive, they are able to function without needing to steal the chi (life energy) from another being, as they have their energetic source of balance from birth. During this time, they are considered Jade Court Virgins. Jade Courtiers can only create offspring while in their 'Virgin' state, and cannot mate or procreate with their own twin. Additionally, Jade Court Virgins age as normal humans and can die of old age just like any other mortal.
The only time a Jade Court Virgin might have to feed off another person's Chi is when they expend their balanced energy by using one of the Vampiric powers they may have. Their energy can be restored to the balance normally through time and steady ebbing of their Twin energy.
Jade Court Vampires become such only in the event that one of the twins dies, leaving the remaining twin without their natural balance. Females that are left without their male counterpart must feed on Yang energy where as males that are left without their female counterpart must feed on Yin energy. Once one of the twins dies, the Vampire left behind stops aging and can live on eternally provided they feed and aren't killed by outside forces.
Much like White Court Vampires, Jade Court Vampires have an anathema to their well-being. Having their skin pierced by a blade made of pure Jade, which has been harvested in a manner in keeping with the opposite of their own nature burns them horribly.
- I.E. If a female Jade Courtier is stabbed with a blade of jade that was harvested under the light of the sun on the eastern side of a mountain it would inflict the 'Burned' condition. Or if a Male Jade Courtier is stabbed with a blade of jade that was harvested under the moon from the bed of a river, they would have to mark their 'Burned' condition.
The Jade Courtiers live off Life Energy (Qi or Chi), with each specific sex requiring a food-source:
- Female - Requires Yang energy to live.
- Male - Requires Yin energy to live.
