Lola's Awakening 4

Months spent together in this place. Nature started to look forward to the times of sleep. Away from the dull, regimented nature of prison life. Known as a recluse. Quiet and unassuming. Her thoughts often on secret, unsaid things. Things no one looking at her would ever know. After lights out, an evening stretched into a day's worth of the three sisters.

Almost addictive. Painting with Accident, with any color of the rainbow at their beck and call. Any canvas. They spent a night painting a building from top to bottom in so many colors. In time, Cause joined in. Slowly at first before finding her muse. A darker, more violent muse, but she was trying.

And so her sisters tried. Cause was eager to teach. They knew how to do what she did in principle. But violence was as unnatural to them as creativity was to her. Yet Cause was a relentless, if not experienced teacher. She learned through doing, so they did too. Accident had it worse, but she was unwilling to let her sisters down in their exploration of this queer togetherness. Even if she did not seem to enjoy it, she learned to exert the force of her body in damaging ways.

It was simple because they could will into being any setting, any tool. Weapons, targets, moving and inanimate. Accident prefered the ones that didn't look real. Cause prefered the ones that made noises. Nature just learned as she came to know her sisters more and more.

But today they lingered together. A place they designed together. A vast, untamed field on a hill. Below, a broad forest stretched. A dark, possibly dangerous place full of beasts. Distantly heard every now and then. Above, the dark violet sky was full of stars, no one color the same. Contrasting the two moons that hung at either end of the sky, one red and the other green.

Together the three laid out on the grass. In this place, they had their own thoughts. Together, yet oddly apart. A new experience that just seemed to click for them. It was like reliving a childhood that never was. They fought and bickered, they learned and strove together. Rediscovering what it means to be together in this strange mindscape.

"What's going to happen when we get out?" Cause was the one to break the silence. The others looked over, curious. But it took a few moments before the often taciturn sister spoke again. "Is this.. Going to happen out there?"

Nature considered as Accident looked towards her. "I don't know. Maybe. If not, we'll be how it was before. Which was fine, if not ideal. Maybe there will be something else."

Cause grunted lowly and growls, "Why wait. We should.. Make something happen. Something better." Both of her sisters look at her, which seems to annoy her slightly. "Well? Do you always wanna be like we are or be.. Better. Somehow."

It was obvious that Cause wasn't sure what better would be, of course. But her willingness to embrace the notion sparked some focus in her siblings. "What would we want to be, then?" Nature's question to the both of them.

Accident answered immediately, "Together!" The attention of her sister only emboldened her. "We should be together. All the time. Not one at a time. Could we be that?" There was a hopeful air to her question.

Nature and Cause considered that. And after a moment Nature glanced towards Cause and smirked faintly. "Well, we couldn't accuse one another of hiding behind the other." That prompted a scoff from Cause.

"I don't know. Sounds weird. Ain't sure I wanna be.. Always together. What would that even mean? How would we do it?"

Nature shook her head. "I don't know how. I don't even know just how this is happening. But.. we're kind of like that right now. Only when we're sleeping. If we push this into our awake time. Well, it could be interesting. Maybe dangerous, if anything happens."

The three looked at each briefly before Cause grunted, standing up. "Like we care about danger. Life is dangerous. We never would get what we want if we give up."

Accident pops up and grins brightly. "Yeah! We do the fun things we want when we want. Not when other people want."

Nature smirked faintly as she slowly rose herself. "I guess that's it then." She paused and murmured, "I think.. We're waking up. But, we'll figure this out." She stepped up to the other two, a hand extended. They joined hands in a circle. "We'll face this together."

And together they stood as the world around them started to fade. Drifting into white as a dream might end.
