Lola's Awakening

Sleep is a panacea for most. And that was how it was for Lola until this evening. Inside her mind, the usual fog of slumber parts and she finds herself and herself and herself in a place that is new. A flood of indistinct materials. A perfect circle of clear air, surrounded by a roiling haze of fog. A starless sky above, yet enough light to see from no distinct source.

An impossible place for an impossible woman.

THree pairs of eyes turned from the surroundings to themselves in the same moment. Each set of eyes the same. Each face uncannily the same. Hair.. the color differing between them. Red, Purple and Green. And clothing. Leather and denim, short and skimpy, light and airy.

"What is this?" Cause's hoarse rumble rolling heavily in the empty air.

"I don't know," Nature responded, her attention moving outward again. Eyes narrowed.

"Sisters!" Accident greeted the two of them happily, her smile broad.

Drawing the attention of the others, the high, girly voice was flush with pleasure and a hint of the tension faded in the wake of it. Nature smiled. Cause scoffed, glancing away. She could not escape, however, the warm embrace that she was assaulted with first. The gruff woman stiffened at the contact, seemingly unable to react before it was over, leaving her feathers vaguely ruffled. Nature answered in kind to her own assault, warmly embracing their innocent third.

"I have wanted to do this," Accident chirped in contentment. "I do not know what this is, but I like it."

The affection ended, Nature paused, considering Accident's words. "She's right, we couldn't do this before. And I don't know how we are now." She looked at Cause.

Cause had her arms crossed, showing off her state of sullen indifference. "Don't look at me. I didn't do this to us."

Nature turned, pacing the clear circle slowly. Accident drifted along in her wake with a broad smile and Cause watched the other two, unable to conceal her curiosity. The fog was not impenetrable. Nature's hand extended into it with no ill effect to her. But..

"I can feel.. I do not want to go out there," Nature commented. Accident paused, her expression thoughtful. Her head bobbing in accent. Cause grunted, eyeing the fog warily. But she did not disagree.

"There is nothing out there," Nature concluded. The point is this place." She turned, facing her sisters. "Here. And us." She turned to approach Cause, prompting the red haired woman to tense. Which only amused Nature. "Do you think I would hurt you?"

Cause frowned faintly, her consideration of that visible in the set of her eyes. Leading to one conclusion. "No." She did relax. Some. "What do you want?"

Nature pauses in front of her. Accident, drifting in her wake, circles to stand to the side, between the both of them. A smile worn, hands linked behind her back as she swayed to the music in her head.

Nature considered that for a time before she says, "I don't know. We're here for a reason, but that reason is not obvious. Except for what this gives us a chance to do. To talk. Before we could only remember each other's experiences. Infer from them our natures. Now, we can talk. Face to face, mind to mind. That must be part of it."

Cause scoffed. "Why would I care what you have to say?" A hint of hostility entering her hard voice.

Nature smirked at that. "Still just as short sighted and stupid as ever," she answers, voice cool and no less hard.

Cause bristled, her arms snapping down to her sides. Hands balled into fists. "Shut your whore mouth, you prissy weakling!"

Nature's eyes narrowed. "Better than a friendless lunatic." Her lips twisted, her voice sharp and quiet as a steel blade. "You're the reason we're in here, you know? Because you just can't control yourself."

"Stronger than you, you simpering slut," Cause answers, her voice husky with the throaty rumble that betrayed her increasing anger.

"Like it matters. You're the one hiding behind me, now," Nature answers, her own anger rising. "Letting me deal with the consequences of your actions."

"That's all you're good for," Cause answers back almost at once, seeming eager to vent her bile. "I bleed for us. Fight for us. You deal with those that don't matter. Why else would we need you?"

Nature laughed, the sound bitter and sharp. "Only because you're so stunted and useless. You're a hammer in search of a fucking nail."

"Sisters!" Between them, Accident had grown more and more distressed at the harsh back and forth, shifting lightly from foot to foot with the growing anxiety of watching her sisters bicker, leaning in closer to one another with every back and forth.

The high, distressed exclamation drew both of their attention. "Don't fight. Please don't fight." A hand lifted to rest on the shoulder of each. "We need strength." She looks to Cause. "And guile." She looked to Nature. "We need each other."

Nature and Cause both considered this, their attention slowly drifting back to one each other.

"She's right," Nature said finally. "We aren't stronger alone. And we have been, in a way. Together but separated. This is the first time we've spoken. The first time we can actually be together."

"Why?" Cause's gruff question. "Why this? Why now?"

Nature smiled slowly. "The Blood has always been a mystery. Others do not understand us, but we don't fully understand either. Where our strength comes from. Why we three are as we are. It is a time to question the reason less and explore the possibilities."

This didn't seem to dismiss Cause's unease entirely. But she let the issue go. For now. "But we have to do something here. We are here to do something."

All three of them exchanged looks. This they could all feel. There was no need to confirm it between them.

"Maybe we can start with just talking," Accident suggested. "Nicely?" Her voice lightly hopeful on that account, her eyes going between her two sisters.

Nature sighed. And Cause scoffed.

"Fine," Nature allowed.

"Fine," Cause grumbled.

And, for the first time, they talked. Three sisters in one mind.
