- Pay What You Can: Ho'okipa relies on the "give a penny, take a penny" principle. When you're down and out, you have a place. But when you're flush? Give back and keep paying it forward.
- Luxury Hostel: As far as hostels go, this one is pretty plush - private rooms with private bathrooms and modern, well-kept common areas. But it's still a hostel, NOT a hotel. There are no restaurants or room service. Continental breakfast is served in the mornings, otherwise feel free to store your food to cook for yourself in the shared kitchen.
- A Little Slice of Paradise: Ho'okipa only has two floors and 18 guest rooms, so it's not large. It's hard for guests and residents not to bump into each other.
- 18+ Only: Adults only, even in the pools. Sorry, kids.
