Should one really fight a shark on their home turf?

Location

Kailua Bay, Windward Coast

Plot(s)

Plot:Land Shark!

Late evenings on the Windward side of Oahu were a very popular thing when the sky was clear and filled with a myriad of shimmering stars. Much like tonight. People were out roaming on the beach or eating in the restaurants, as they stayed open til at least 2 am and would provide plenty of hot or cold food to keep the energy levels up through the night.

Out on the water, a few intrepid, night-time surfers took to the waters and rode along waves, wearing swimsuits that held glow-sticks and other manner of identifying, bright things to make it so that their fellow surfers wouldn't accidentally run them over. A lack of moon meant it was a little hard to see where the water started and the night began. All in all, a glorious, gorgeous Spring night to be had by any and all. And people were making the most of it.

The tide is low and ebbing.

Peter walks along the beach, eyes out on the folks in the water, a look of envy obvious in his expression. He trails along a few steps behind Lola, who seems intent on trouble for the oar named Row'an is resting over one of her shoulders.

"So are we just out here randomly, or do you know something is up and you're getting into position?" He runs a hand through his wildly colored hair and chuckles. "Do you get a feeling then? Or like, a decipherable message from somewhere or someone? Is it like Highway to Heaven? Yanno, that show with Michael Landon? He was an angel and he kept going around to places where people needed him? Sent by the 'boss'. If you're that angel, and I'm the sidekick with extras... who's the boss?"

On a clear, beautiful spring night like this, it was hard for Corrine not to come out for a late night walk and maybe swim. She'd clearly planned for either occasion as she walked along. She had comfortable, worn in sneakers on her feet, the off brand kind found at Payless. Her legs were bare in the moonlight, and she'd chosen a pair of open jean shorts to go over the silver bikini bottoms she wore. Her jacket was likewise denim, and likewise open to reveal the silvery top half of the bikini above a flat, toned stomach. She was moving at a comfortable pace, a walking stick in hand to help her get around on the sand.

It's a beautiful evening for a night stroll, but for once Iara is out on the water, walking along the shoreline in a bright red bathing suit with black polka dots, peering intently, almost longingly at the surfers on the water. She seems halfway between deciding to go for a swim and enjoying an evening walk. But of course she is not alone, it seems, and she glances around as she spies some familiar faces. Peter is of course noted. And inevitably, Lola is not far behind. Biting her lip nervously, she decides to keep her distance for now.

Lola saunters. Because she is feeling so good. The wind off the sea toys with her hair lightly. Red on black, better step back. The woman has a dead set focus on the path before her. And she is indeed toting an oar. A big one, heavy and sturdy enough to smash coconuts. It's well cared for, varnished and wrapped with a textured grip. And there's a carving in it. Hard to see until one gets close. It reads 'Row'an the Destroy'oar'. Yeah. And it rests comfortably over her shoulder, an arm curled over it languidly. Balanced with just the weight of her arm to keep it in place.

Her head turns slightly, but not fully when Peter speaks and she scoffs at what he has to say. "I'm here cause I wanna be," she answers him, her voice husky and harsh. Meant for aggression, though she's not particularly aggressive just yet. "And you're here cause you followed me." With that stated, she turns her attention forward again, For the moment, she has no eyes for any but the road ahead. Maybe she's just enjoying being mobile again.

Mila was among the intrepid surfers out on the black, endless waters that stretched into the night. Those that knew her, or at least saw her get to the beach or getting dressed could easily recognize her, though, as she glowed at the hips and shoulders where a couple of neon orange glow sticks bounced around as she rode on her white, sleek surfboard through the waves. Every so often she could be seen bobbing along waves as she moved back into position to catch another one.

As she came up to a rather enjoyable wave, the neon orange glow sticks out on the water spun around and indicated very swift movement, then leaps into the air followed by flipping of the surfboard, over and over again. Mila was quite obviously having a good night out on the waves, because even on shore the sounds of her war-like victory 'WHOOOOOOOOOO!' could be heard through the night.

Iolana is, as she is often prone to doing perched on mound of sand watching the comings and goings of those strolling the beach, her toes buried in the sand and a bottle of rum in one hand and card case in the other. Quiet and out of the way she occasionally jerks or moves her hand as if shooing smoke from her eyes or chasing away flies.

Sometimes its a soft voice in the back of her mind that keys Mellie into where to be when she's potentially needed. Sometimes its simply that after a lifetime spent on the island, you learn to follow the ebb and flow of people just as well as one does the tides. Sometimes... Well. Sometimes it's the need for ice cream before bed. Barefoot in the sand, it seems to be potentially the last that drug Mel down from the jungles at the late hour, a cone in one hand and sandals in the other and a canvas totebag over her shoulder as she makes her way someplace between sea and land back up the coast. She almost does a double take as she notices familiar red hair tagging along after Corrine like a lost puppy dog... Or tiger as the case might be. But after a chuckle simply to herself and a bite of her ice cream her stroll continues, angling just enough towards the couple to let her say hello once everyone winds up within proximity for such.

It's a pleasant evening and Isaac is out for a walk, humming a tune as he makes his way along the beach. He strolls along with his hands in the pockets of his jacket, a light summer coat which he has left open, revealing a white v-necked t-shirt underneath. He is wearing modern beige combat trousers and boots to go with the t-shirt, a wide belt at the waist, various pouches and attachments visible as his jacket is blown by the wind.

Isaac doesn't seem to have a specific direction in mind as he walks, he just follows the edge of the beach, in a heading that will probably take him to a bar at some point. There are a few familiar faces visible as he makes his way, Peter and Lola getting friend;y nods as he spots them. Corrine is waved to, Isaac grinning as he spots her strolling along. Noise from the water makes him turn and he has to squint to make out the familiar figure on the surf board.

Stabbed into the sand around her were a handful of baking utensils and a pair of buckets. Carefully, Volya's fingers danced on the surface of the packed-sand back as she carved into it with the icing knife. A bit by bit, she was freeing a face from the sand. She was dressed in a black and tan baja hoodie and an oversized pair of cargo shorts. The cry from the water gave her pause as the knife retreated and she stared blankly out over the water, sniffing the air for a moment and grinning.

Peter slows a little when he hears the WOOOO of victory, grinning brightly as he knows that feeling. Even in surfing, he's had a few victories there. He casts his glance out over the water again, searching out the celebrator, before looking back to Lola as she speaks. "Oh come on.", he protests. "Surely there's more to it than that? I mean, I know I get into more than my fair share of trouble, but usually that's on purpose. So I don't buy it. Maybe..."

His head snaps to the left, his eyes out over the water again while he takes a few steps towards the water. "Did you hear that?", the young man asks of Lola. "Someone... two someones just got yanked into the water." Peter sniffs heavily, his feet splashed by the incoming tide as he wades several feet into the water. "You can swim, yes?", he asks of Lola once more as he takes a glance up and down the beach, with a very odd accent in his voice.

As Corrine trotted along, she started recognizing familiar figures here and there, grinning as she spotted Isaac. As she gravitated his way she passed Iolana, giving the woman a smile, then gave a nod to Lola and Peter. "Aloha Lola. Looking a lot better these days since the last time I saw you. Glad to see it." She smiled, waving to Iara as she was spotted playing among the waves. She grinned at the man. "Well, aloha again Isaac." She patted him on the arm. "How're you doing this evening?" As she spoke, she looked over, spotting Volya working in the sand and grinning. "What the heck's she up to now?" Mila's cry of victory whipped her head around to see the woman come out of her run. She thrust her arms into the air and cheered, her own cry dying away as another caught her ear. She frowned. "The hell was that?" Looking over, she spotted the blue glow sticks go down in the dark. She heard Peter's words and frowned. "Two? Are you sure?" She looked back to Isaac. "Looks like someone fell. Happens all the time but it must be a pain in the ass to find your way back to shore in the dark." She walked towards the shoreline, calling out. "Oi! You alright?"

Iara pauses on the shoreline as she hears yelling in the water. Spying Mila there, she smiles and watches her awesome surfing with some awe, taking another step closer to the water.

Briefly she spies a familiar Corrine and Iolana, and she smiles and waves to them with a shy smile. "Aloha!" she calls. However, a sudden sharp scream catches her attention, and her eyes narrow, hearing more than looking at the dark murky depths as she spies the tumbling glow sticks with a surprised gasp.

"There's someone out there! I think they might be in trouble.." she swallows nervously. By all means, Iara is not a strong swimmer, but she seems more concerned for whoever is out there than her own safety as she quickens her pace, diving into deeper water towards the glow sticks. "Hey, is anyone out there? Do you need help?!" she echoes after Corrine's query.

Lola pauses when Mila shouts out, her head turning. Watching the tail end of the trick. Her eyes narrow, though there seems a spark of interest in her firm expression.Only for something to snag at her attention. Much the same, it seems, as what Peter has caught on to. Her eyes narrow, though as he moves forward, she remains firmly planted. Her attention moving to him, casually watching him move into the water. "I can," she answers him. "Why?" Because it seems she has no current intention to investigate. Corrine calling out to her gets a look from Lola, the woman different from when she's purple and white haired. Though she does end up grinning fiercely. "I feel good." The throaty way she says that.. it might not be great for everyone that she is. She glances over towards Iara when the girls starts calling out, giving the other woman an amused smirk. Spending a little time just.. eyeing her. Inexplicably.

Mila continues on her path of blissful surfing. If she's noticed anything it would be impossible to tell, as she moved into position for another wave to come her way. The bright orange glow-sticks and a set of bright yellow ones moved to the same wave and then the two seemed to ride it in tandem, yellow trailing after orange like some sort of tracer as they played follow the leader. It was obviously planned, or at the least the yellow glow sticks meant to follow the orange ones, as whoever wore the yellow cut up at the same time Mila wearing the orange ones did, and struck down for long, fast lines along the crest of the wave. Finally they both dropped into the curl and rode the rest of the wave along the inner edge of the tube, the water distorting the image of the glow-sticks as they streaked along.

Iolana's response to the veritable collection of lassies and their nose pointing to alert of Trouble goes unnoticed by Iolana just yet. She has a crisis of her own it seems, her face pinching a bit and she shifts uncomfortably in the sand, one fist thumping on her chest before her imminent crisis is averted by a loud: Braaaaaarrrrrp! With look of relief she leans back and tilts the bottle up against her lips to celebrate.

Isaac continues on his way, smiling as Corrine heads towards him. "Uh...I guess?" His accent is English, although more a country accent than a city one. "Corrine? They'll not hear you if they're underwater and I think there are other surfers out there, I'm fairly sure I heard Mila as well." He stops and glances towards the water, towards the spot where he noticed blue glow-sticks a few moments before. "No life guards at this hour?" Isaac sounds like someone who is rather keen on not getting into the water, not that his voice is without compassion of course, there are others on the beach. Seeing as how the people in the water were more or less on his way anyway, Isaac heads on towards the spot, keeping away from the water but keeping watch all the same.

Walking along sand, Mellie's gaze is drawn mostly towards open sky above, and dark movements of water below. What little of her interest isn't absorbed by her ice cream, well, it's held as typical by the sea. But her path is already set in the sand to intercept Peter and Lola for hellos, so, even if she missed the notice of what's happening, she notices when that path veers from dry land towards the shoreline.

Corrine is also with them, and then Iara comes over, and before Mellie even notices, it's a small gathering with Isaac as well. Iara calls out, and Mellie takes a half-step back, trying to see around the bodies to the waves as she asks to the group of almost all strangers as a whole, "Someone lost out there?" Mostly, she sees a lot of darkness, glow-sticks, and a howling streak of orange that adds a bit of yellow for firey streaks over dark water. It's beautiful enough that her artistic gaze actually gets drawn in for a long moment, forgetting why she'd started to scrutinize the sea at all until Isaac points out the logic of screaming out to people underwater. Shaking her head to clear it, Mellie turns back to the small gathering, licking a melted rivulet of her confection from her wrist and thumb and holding it out from her white outfit, "Lifeguards at this hour? No. Why, what's going on?" Other than dessert, which she pulls back to continue eating in hopes of if nothing else being rid of.

Volya had gone back to focusing on her cake-knifed artwork after Mila's victory whoop, and was working the sand to continue to bring a face from it. She shifted a touch to push the arms of her hoodie up so they wouldn't disturb any sand and was just about to start work on the bridge of a nose when she froze. Slowly, her head came up and she looked at the water with dread covering her expression. Her eyes flickered across the surface until she found the bright orange glow of Mila's glow sticks and she let out a breath she hadn't intentionally held. A moment later, though, concern tightened her brow as she scanned the surface of the water away from Mila's surfing form. Searching for whatever had pulled her attention so thoroughly from her sand carving. If she's noticed anyone else it's hard to say, as she seemed completely enthralled by watching the darkness of the water and its daredevil, night time surfers.

Out on the water, a few of the different colored sets of glow-sticks seemed to be converging together, moving toward one another and then heading in the direction where a surfboard popped itself up into the air without a rider and made a sullen splash onto the surface of the water as it landed. "Ray?!" A male voice could be heard and the various shades of glowstick that had started to form a group began moving a little quicker, the sound of their feet kicking and splashing somewhat audible to all as it was so incongruous with the timing of the crashing waves.

Peter pauses to offer Corrine a grin and a wave, and pauses a bit longer to look to Iara a moment. He shrugs to Mellie's question about whether or not someone is lost out there. The young man eyes the glow-sticks converging, and his eyes narrow. It appears that he is counting. And the appearance of a surfboard is tracked. He turns then to Lola.

"'Cause I am going in, and you might need to come and pull me out."

His shirt is already coming off and balled up, and tossed to Lola's feet. His jean shorts follow quickly after, leaving the man naked as the day he was born. "The blue glow-sticks are gone, pulled down into the depths. He's only got a few minutes. I am guessing shark attack, since part of his surfboard is missing. One of you folks need to call the authorities." With that, Peter takes a few running steps until the water threatens to trip him, and he dives in, swimming towards the group of surfers gathering close.

The stars glitter like diamonds in the deep sapphire blue of the night sky.

Corrine frowned. "Doesn't look like they're coming up. Shit." She frowned as she heard Peter speak. "How could you..." She shook her head. "Right..." She took out her cell phone, dialing 911. As she explained what was happening, she cast off her jacket and started pulling off her shorts, tossing them both to the sand as she dumped her phone down after it. "Ok... let's see if I remember how to do a dolphin." She started sprinting pell mell for the water, crashing in with a blistering dive that saw her vanish under the waves, popping up every no and then as she surfaced for air.

"Life guards? At this hour?" Iara frowns softly, shaking her head, "It's pretty late.." she peers out into the water, realizing this would be way easier in her bat form, but...

She swallows, eyeing the waves more nervously as they lap around her ankles, a bit hesitant to venture further out to sea. Surely the people out there now will be able to find their friend and bring him back safely..Except with all the weirdness on this island..

She closes her eyes, trying to hear more than see in the darkness, perhaps she can find them better that way. But no dice, "I guess we need to get closer. Corrine, you're a doctor right? We might need your help.." For the moment, Iara only hesitantly and reluctantly inches further into the water's depths, pulse racing a bit.

Glancing over at Peter as he dives into the water, she silently nods to him, but it is Lola's taunting gaze that prompts her further into the water, following after Peter, her strokes stronger than they were last time she was here. "Petey.." She murmurs, "I'll back you up too.."

<The Sight> Mellie has turned on The Sight.

"Saw the shark," Lola states casually. "You wanna go in there, that's all you. Me? Not a lifeguard." Her gruff, but bland tone speaking more towards disinterest than any sort of fear. Fighting is one thing but saving people? Psh. Who does he think she is? Greenie? For the moment, Lola remains casually planted, if nothing else waiting to watch the show.

Mila really wasn't noticing much of anything it would seem, as she finished her ride on the wave and came out the other side, moving to sit down onto her board. The bright orange of her glowsticks made a quick movement, though, as she turned to the direction of where something could be heard. Maybe it was the veritable raft of glowsticks paddling toward some spot in the water, or maybe it was the call of 'Ray!', but Mila laid onto her board and started paddling over to the same place.

Iolana rises and stretches with a bit of a wobble. There are sure a lot of people interested in the ocean. Unhurriedly she almost steadily saunters her way towards the shortline, another softer belch issuing as she goes.

OK. Someone lost in water. What words didn't answer for Mellie directly, ongoing conversation and actions surely did. Either she's not the world's strongest swimmer, or she's REALLY into her ice cream. As everyone else goes for the water, Mellie stays where she is. Her feet may not be on dry land exactly, but they stay put on wet sand. And she goes really quiet, and pretty contemplitive, whittling away at her quickly diminishing ice cream cone as she literally seems just to stand there, staring out at the ocean as though nothing were happening. And maybe she's gotten full, or perhaps she's just lost her appetite, but wincing as if she's been hit with a major ice cream headache she drops what's left of her sticky cone into the sand at her feet.

"Bugger. Okay, so no life guards." Isaac blinks as he watches various people take off at speed, he reaches down and gathers up Corrine's gear, making sure her phone is safe in a pocket before looking out to the water's edge, watching the drama unfold. He glances over to Lola as she casually mentions a shark, turning his head and cupping his hands as he yells to Corrine and Peter. "Shark!" Taking a deep breath, Isaac yells again, not quite sure if he's being heard. "Corrine, Peter? There's a fucking shark in the water!" Irritation clearly showing on his face, he looks over to Lola. "That was something that could have been mentioned before people started diving in. Not cool." Turning back, he heads to the water's edge, heading over to Vee when he sees her. "Vee? Is Mila in there? There's a shark out there." He drops to a crouch, putting Corrine's gear down and then starting untying the belt at his waist, setting it underneath the bundle as he continues to go through his pockets.

Volya made a popping noise with her mouth as she cut more sand from the rough sculpture. Her head tilted as she listens to various sounds and people. Squinting her eyes as she watched the water and people jumping into it. "That is not a good idea..." Dropping her knife into the bucket, then grabbing the other tools about her to toss them. "Ah..." She blinked as she hopped out and made her way out to the shoreline, dusting off her hands. She nodded, paused and realized that visual communication was the best as she looked to Isaac. "Yeah... She's out there, but she's... Solid? I think." Taking another step or two, she moved in so the waves slapped at her ankles.

The tide is low and slack.

Peter isn't as fast, perhaps, as the two women who begin to overtake him, but he does put in a valiant effort. He's panting heavily as he comes up to where Mila paddles her surfboard. "He's down. Whatever grabbed him is down." The young man looks to the other surfers and raises his voice. "Those of you not willing to dive down, get to shore! It's a shark! Look at his board!" He gestures to the board in question, the nose of it missing a chunk, with a jagged edge to show the nature of the violence done to it.

He takes a deep breath, and hauls himself upwards, using the height to dive downwards into the murky depths. A few bubbles make their way to the surface to mark his passing.

Corrine kept swimming, pushing her way through the water with quick, easy movements. A final burst of speed got her there, and she bobbed for a moment at the surface. "I've already called 911. Get to land as fast as you can." She gave the surfers a flippant salute and took a deep breath, likewise diving down to look for the missing surfer.

The waning crescent moon rises into the sapphire blue of the night sky, dimming the light of the twinkling stars.

As the form of Peter turned into something much larger and heavier than he once was, a collision occurs under water. A hard, heavy, triangular snout came into contact with his flank, giving him a little jolt. The rough, sand papery texture of the thick hide that hit him was fairly unmistakable, as was the strange sensation of movement as something very, very large jerked away from him and its wake caused TigPeter to move underwater.

As Corrine dives down into the water, she comes full on into contact with the side of a heavy, sand papery, skinned creature. As it turns, the long side of it scrapes up along Corrine's shoulder while she goes lower into the water. The impact actually bumps her a little bit off coarse.

Iara's heart pumps a bit more nervously when someone calls out shark, and while she is a stronger swimmer than even she realized, she's not super keen on taking on a shark. "Shark?! Are..Are you sure?" but she's already more than halfway to the surfboard, and she did promise to back up Peter. Besides, when she sees the bite out of the board it's pretty darn obvious what did that. Maybe..With a nervous swallow, she continues to paddle out towards the other, keen senses sweeping the area for any sign of the missing surfer. Having Peter at her side, she seems more confident, not so scared..And she is about to follow after him..When that loud thump crashes into him. "Petey!" She gasps, and dives after him, this time determined to attack or at least distract whatever slammed into him. Her body shimmers into the firm of a giant bat, Holden eyes flashing with anger as powerful sharp claws slice into the thing's hide.

Down below the water, for those under there, the sound of struggling can be heard, as a series of heavy thumps sound.

The tide is low and rising.

Lola snorts, glancing at Isaac. "He knows what's going on," she states, tilting her head after Peter. And she doesn't sound at all concerned for the moment. She casually flips her oar off her shoulder, giving it a relaxed, familiar spin before she plants the butt of it into the sand, leaning on a two fisted grip to peer at the water and all the people. And the sharks. This should prove interesting. Maybe even bloody. Better than those movies. She grins broadly, considering that.

Lots and lots of bubbles come up from lower in the water, frantic sounds increasing.

Mila looked around herself, already really concerned for what's going on. She motioned to the guy closest to her to move back to shore and called out loudly "SHARK! Get your idiot asses to shore, you fools!" This called to the other surfers that were lolly gagging. She then bent over the side of her surf board and shoved her whole head underwater, looking around. A moment later, Mila reached back, undid her tether, and slipped into the water without another sound, quick and agile, like she was born of it.

Iolana looks around with a general air of cluelessness and thinks about asking someone but then shrugs and tilts the bottle up against her lips. Why spoil the suspense?

"NOT sharks," Mellie mutters out through clenched teeth, "at least not JUST sharks..." Must be one KILLER ice cream headache. "And no point in 911, either." Not that words from the ice cream eater still on shore are likely to affect anyone further away than perhaps Isaac or Lola or Iolana, or any others who aren't also gathered nearby. And, apparently, ice cream headaches cause nausea, as her nose crinkles and she turns around, all the warning she has before she vomits the ice cream she's just eaten all over the remnants she'd just dropped. She covers her mouth and blocks her nostrils with the back of a hand, still bent over as she says to anyone close enough to hear it, "Don't go in after them, get them out, get EVERYONE out. Don't let anyone else go through the water!" And despite all actual appearances, she sounds genuinely sincere, not at all like the raving lunatic her actions would appear to make her. Suspense may not be spoiled, but... A fair few other things might be, including the blousy hem of the white shirt Mellie had been wearing.

"Solid?" Isaac asks, stepping up to Volya and squinting out to the water. "Oh right! Yeah, she's pretty solid and erm sharp should she need to be." There really isn't much for him to see from out here, the night is closing in and it was already dark in the water. "I'm really not much of a swimmer and I really don't have any anti-shark gear on me. Not really something that comes up on a daily basis." He's mostly talking to himself, looking a little defeated as he looks out over the water. "I'm going to call 911 again, explain that we might need multiple ambulances as there are possible shark attack." Gathering up his belt, he fastens it back around his waist and then heads over to the quieter section where Iolana is sitting. "You've got the right idea." He says, grinning as he takes a seat. Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a phone and dials a number.

Volya gave Isaac a nod, "Yeah which is why I'm not diving into the water. I would deserve a beating if I was out there at night." Taking a deep breath, Volya dusted off her hands and held them together. Darkened lines started to spread through her skin as her hands slowly spread. Between them, red fire sparked to life, illuminating the area around her like a road flare. Humming a note, she took another step, and spin on one toe as she flung the flame into the air where it burst, raining light over the water. Some of the nodes of light floated in the air, as other fell to the surface of the water, still burning as they sunk.

Underwater, as the light motes made their way through the tide, images were given light that previously had none. A young man was currently being held in the jaws of a shark, the creatures mouth held fast on his left side as blood curled up into the water around them. The thumping sound was the young man hitting on the head of the shark over and over as he screamed, which explained the air bubbles.

A second shark was swimming just near them, and had just bumped solidly into the guy held fast in the other shark's mouth, like it was attempting to jostle it free, or possibly something else, maybe attempting to take it's own bite.

The giant Tiger bares its teeth at the shark that grazes by him, though he does not engage it at the moment. His focus is downwards, to where he can hear the struggle for life ongoing. With mighty swipes of its paws, the feline descends further. And then, the lights begin to illuminate the area around him. Showing the man in his struggles vs. the shark. Now with a known purpose, the tiger descends further to do battle.

<The Sight> Mellie has turned off The Sight.

The massive shark that had previously given a test bump against the huge tiger underwater seemed to remain interested in the beast. As Peter began swimming away, the humongous creature turned back around for another pass. One moment, Peter was swimming downward toward the young man with the glowing blue sticks. The next moment, viciously sharp teeth were passing through the fur and skin on his left flank, then deeply slicing into the meaty muscle underneath, making it so that Peter was now creating a blood trail of his own in the water.

Corrine's texture had been slightly tested when she dipped down under the water. And of course... she had that so soft skin that was just begging to be bitten into. And so, Joseph being the shark he was, couldn't quite resist. With the blood in the water fueling him on, he surged forward after the nimble blond and managed to bring his massive head around just in time to sink his serrated teeth deeply into her thigh, stilling the movement of that leg and filling the water with another cloud of crimson as he left behind a rather perfect set of dental imprints on her once unmarred flesh.

Corrine looked about in confusion as light filtered through the water around her. Giving a brief moment of thanks to whoever had done... whatever they'd done, Corrine focused her attention past the Oh shit a tiger! down into the water below, where she saw the two sharks apparently fighting over the missing diver. With a snarl, she sketched something out in the water, which seemed to swirl around her and snake out, a solid lash that the shark managed to easily avoid, the ocean floor sending up a spray of debris from the missed attack. Her eyes widened in fear as she saw Peter get badly bitten. She did her best to bite back a scream as one of the sharks came by and bit down on her left leg, eyeing the drowning, chewed on surfer with regret.

Iara blinks slowly, adjusting to the water and the darkness. She is surprisingly a good swimmer in bat form, but she will probably have some trouble getting a foothold if she needs to fly.

As magical light suddenly illuminates the darkness, she peers into the depths, catching a glimpse of the captive man below. However with Prell shark still attacking Peter with a particularly vicious attack, she snarls in anger, trying hard to fight a desire to protect Peter first and get him out of there.

But she knows he will insist on helping the diver first. With a soft squeak, she gently nudges him, glancing towards the surface, hoping he will be smart and flee to shore while he can. And with that, she dives deeper, determined to reach the diver and save him..

The shark holding onto the felled surfer, Kane, was holding on rather tightly to the prey in its mouth. As people neared, they could see Kane quite clearly jerking his head from side to side, widening the lacerations in the young man's side, and causing the now illuminated water all around it to fill with a heavy welling of fresh blood, making the water a bit more murky before it started to dissipate out to the nearby, clearer waters.

Lola watches, but is slowly distracted by.. something. Her eyes going vague and a hint of some other color playing at her tips, but a shake of her head reasserts red and black, the woman rumbling low in her throat with annoyance. "My turn," she grunts under her breath. But whatever is nagging her doesn't seem to let up and she thrusts the butt of her oar into the sand, straightening. "No," she grunts then, her eyes rolling to the side, making an obvious show of not listening.. to someone? Nothing?

The second shark, Prina, that had been swirling its way around the felled surfer came in closer again, the resurgence of blood in the water drawing it like a fly to honey. Pushing forward with a power that was awe inspiring, the large creature latched itself onto the flailing left leg of the surfer in Kane's jaws and bit in deeply, tugging in an opposite direction from Kane.

The effect of the second shark's attacks was easily noticed, as the surfer that was fighting reached down to try to stop his leg from being tugged away and simply screamed into the water. The last of his precious Oxygen was escaping him quickly.

Mila had slipped down under the water, and when she got a good bead on where the glowing blue sticks were, she aimed that way. As the light came up from Volya's underwater flair, the streak of Mila swimming faster than any humanoid had a right to could be seen in her pink bikini an her brilliant orange glow sticks. She swam underneath the surfer that was being attacked, looking at the gathered creatures with wide eyes, as a light dusting of bubbles rose to the surface from behind her ears. She reached out to touch the poor surfer's shoulder, and attempted to figure out a good way to get out of the situation.

Volya was still watching the water and trying to sort what was happening. Frowning at the continued cycled of waves, she unleashed a scream towards them. The air around her heated and swirled around her before jetting out over the ocean. As the column of air passed through wave after wave, they broke and splashed as if they had crashed against rocks. Growling, Vee shouted out to the water, "I'm officially fighting the ocean now!"

The feline continues to dive, ignoring shark attacks and blood in the water. Swimming up to boop his snoot against the shark's side.

The tide is high and rising.

The stars in the east begin to look washed out as the sapphire night sky pales.

The huge shark that was attempting to get a nice, happy grip on Peter the Tiger so he could be made a feast a king would be proud of... well. Prell, the Mega Shark, wasn't all that thrilled when the mouth closed around nothing but the tail of the tiger. With as large as the teeth of said shark were, Peter's tail managed to slither out from between the shark's teeth before they closed all the way, leaving Peter free to move in the water.

Joseph the Shark seemed intent on making sure Corrine would be a proper dinner. Mmmm, humanz, it's what's for dinner. He came at her again, spinning and then surging forward with a mighty kick of his tail. Just as his teeth were about to grip into Corrine's thigh again for a good hold, he seemed to be disconcerted by the way the water moved, and Corrine was fully able to keep her precious stem out of the shark's mouth.

Corrine spun in the water, eyes wide with terror as the shark came by for another pass. She shook her head, trying to fight off fatigue and the growing need for oxygen, watching as Mila made her way down to help the poor diver trapped between the two sharks. Despite her own problems though, she was a Valkyrie, and dammit if she could take a shark bite to save some kid. Her hand flexed in the water again, drawing out a rune as a crashing whip of water flew through the water, slamming down on Pina's cartilaginous head. She gave the shark the finger if it looked her way.

Iara glances around as her friends are getting mercilessly pounded by the vicious sharks. Meanwhile, the surfer is now being dragged away by two sharks in opposite directions. A glance to Mila and she knows there is only one thing to do.

With an angry screech, she rushes at Kane's eyes, powerful claws outstretched, hoping for enough distraction to focus his attentions on her instead of the surfer.

As Kane's eye was attacked by a ravaging, underwater, vampire bat, the Shark jerked back, letting go of the torso it was worrying into just a few moments ago. With the putrid filling of what was once the orb of its black eye spewing into the water, it swam back and away with a powerful side to side motion. One could almost hear the 'Yipe, Yipe, Yipe' as it did so.

Pink-gold light gilds the land as the sun creeps over the eastern horizon into a cloudless blue sky.

Lola moves out into the water slowly. "Back down.. damn it. He made his choice. Wasting blood on no one." Talking to herself.. selves? Despite the argument, she moves steadily, her oar swept into a more ready position. Though she's not in a hurry, that's for sure.

Prina, the other shark in the deep, attempted to come in at Ray to grab hold of him now that Kane's mouth was no longer affixed to the man's torso. Ray managed to push himself back from the shark, bumping smack into Mila, but avoiding the jaws of the beast at the very least, likely with the last of his strength.

Mila flashed a wicked grin at the... honest to God bat that was under the water. Clawing the eye out of a shark no less. When Ray pushed himself off of the other shark and came up against Mila, she immediately wrapped her arms around him, well, around his upper body above where the shark bite was, and kicked off toward shore. Being strong as an ox had its priviledges, and she moved with the guy in her arms like he weighed nothing, maintaining a strong, quick swim to the beach without so much as coming up for air, or looking winded for that matter as little bubbles came up from behind her ears as if she were breathing under water.

Volya scanned the forceably calmed water, taking a couple more steps out into the water to mid-calf as someone neared shore. Stripping out of her hoodie to reveal a lime-green swimtop. She moved with Mila to press the hoodie against the blood. "Isaac called an ambulance... I could try something, but..." She shrugged her shoulders and kept mostly out of Mila's way.

Iara flutters up to the water's surface and spreads her wings, grabbing a foothold on the floating surfboard. A moment later she spreads her wings and springs skywards..But continues to hover near the water, hovering protectively near Peter, getting ready to dive bomb any sharks that dare to come near him.

The image is one of those things out of a horror comic. A night filled with falling motes of light, the things burning brightly even as they move through a dark ocean to the sand at the floor. Through the water runs a tiger, enormous and outrageously large in the colors of the bengal. That tiger? He's streaming a line of blood from a fairly serious flank wound as he moves into the shallows and right behind him? What would have to be described as a mega-shark was following swiftly, almost close enough to bite at his back legs and tail. The shark didn't show any signs of slowing down, though. It was, in fact, chasing Peter like it would follow the stripy creature onto the beach itself.

Lola is there when Peter arrives in the water, human and not tiger. "Idiot," she tells him, face to face. Assuming he's mostly upright. Either way, she grabs his arm to help him roughly out of the water. "Come on. Now that you're all torn up. Don't fight on their terms. That's stupid." It will go like that as she ends up with one of his arms over her shoulder, hustling him along. Not kind to his torn leg. but with her rough help he should get back to the Hostel.. mostly whole.

Under the water still with Corrine, Joseph the shark didn't seem to be taking much of the hint that the woman didn't want anything to do with his gnarly ways. He rushed toward her, attempting to get his teeth sunk into another meaty bit of thigh, or possibly an arm. Unfortunately for him, Corrine was able to avoid his attack like she was expecting it by now, and he managed not to get in a single nibble.

As Ray was safely dragged off by Mila and Peter and Iara both took off, it was Corrine's turn to do likewise. Kicking her legs, she managed to dodge another assault by Joseph, hauling ass for the surface. As soon as she broke air a pair of wings appeared, pushing her up into the sky with a scream that sounded suspiciously like "OH FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK MY LEG!"

As Mila was swimming out of the water like she had some sort of outboard motor attached to her back, she had company. The figure of Prina the shark was moving behind them. She steadily lost ground as the two made it to the shorline, and seemed to lose interest as the two gained the beach head. Soon enough, Prina the shark turned away and moved back out toward the deeper waters, intent on finding dinner.

The flood of surfers leaving the beach was impressive to watch, with all their glow sticks lighting up the night as they rushed to vehicles with their boards, turning on lights to bring up the glow on the beach so people could better see as they attended to their friend Ray. The sound of sirens could be heard nearby as an aid car, possibly two, was coming to the scene.

Mila looked around, eyeing the huge gash in Ray's side and then looking down at his leg. "Uh... Keep pressure on the body, Vee. I'll... shit." She blinks and looks at the leg that is steadily seeping much blood. "I know what to do." Reaching back, she undid her bikini top, revealing the fact that she, indeed, had no real breasts to speak of. Rather than making any noise about what she was doing, she took her bikini top and tied it around the leg that was bleeding, knotting it tight to help stem the flow of blood from the artery. "That should... help. Akua... man you're gonna be alright!" She called to the guy's face, not seeming to care one iota for anything in the water anymore, not even when someone dropped her surfboard off near herself and Vee, spiking it into the sand so she'd have it when it was time to go home.

Volya looked at the water, raised her hand to it and the lights above and below the water began to fade as she turned her attention back to Ray. Moving her hands over the man's wounds, Vee's eyes flared with an emerald light as the blood flow started to slow. It wasn't until the woman started shivering bodily did she pull back her hands, the dark green lines through her flesh building their own green glow. "I..." She sniffed at the air, staring at Mila, gesturing vaguely with her hand before hugging herself.

As people managed to get out of the ocean, leaving and looking like they'd survived some sort of horrendous shipwreck, the huge shark that had been following Peter really didn't slow down. Instead, it came right up onto the shore with a gnash of it's teeth. Strange, elongated limbs started to push from its sides, forming arms and legs but maintaining the shark-like head on its massive frame. Instead of thrashing about, it pushed up onto its hands and feet and looked like it was about to move forward, continue on the land after its once tiger now human query. But then, the lights were up from all of the trucks and cars in the parking lot, illuminating the beach even more. It stopped its forward momentum, water dripping from it and out of its gills as it turned its head left, then right. A moment later, the insanely huge... walking shark... turned and leapt back into the water, springing off its legs with a powerful push. A few moments after that, all of the shark fins had disappeared completely under the water. Gone, it would seem, at least for now.

A struggling Corrine managed to land in the water, far enough up the beach that she was away from the slowly growing group of people. Limping her way over, she flopped down next to Ray, looking at the man, she frowned at the lack of blood flow and looked to Mila and Volya, clearly confused. "The hell? This should... be worse..." She winced at the pain in her leg. "Shit that hurts." Still and all, she started looking the man over, probing carefully as they waited for the ambulance to arrive. She gave the two women a weary smile. 'Thanks... that was... pretty impressive."

Mila looked up at Volya and smiled warmly, obvious pride on her face for the woman. "You're my awesome pupule wahine, you know that? You're just so... fucking awesome." She shook her head and chuckled, glancing back behind her to the water just in time to catch a glimpse of the mammoth shark.. with arms and legs, leaping back into the water. Her jaw dropped open and she blinked, obviously dumbfounded. "Uh... Hey Corrine, you ok? Uh... Man, Vee did you feed me some edibles this morning or something. I just saw that shark with fucking arms and legs. Am I fucking out of it? I don't think I got hurt at all." Mila looked at herself, checking her limbs for her own blood, and finding none of it. As the ambulance came to the parking lot, filling the world with bright red and blue flashing lights, she let out a sigh. "Mahalo Akua, they've got stuff that should save this guy. But... Corrine you need to see the ambulance too, girl." She eyed the violent and rather perfect, bloody dental imprints on Corrine's leg. "You got bit by a fucking shark, wahine."

The tide is high and slack.

Volya was still shivering and hugging herself when the shark WALKED out of the water. Her mouth dropped open, and the air around heated and spun like someone had turned on a blow-dryer in the desert. Extending her hand to level it at the Landshark. And when the creature leapt for the water, Vee just sort of did a full-body twitch. She shook her head, then shook her head a second time before walked to Corrine. Wordlessly, she grabbed Corrine's leg. The sensation of white hot lava poured into Corrine's leg, straight to the bone and into every nerve of her body. Volya wasn't holding quite the right emotion for that. The oddity was there was a complete lack of smell of reasonably expected burning flesh, but instead there was the strong scent of sweet flowers in bloom. Exhaling a long breath, her eyes went back to Mila. "So... Uhh... Are you busy right now?"
