Conditions List
Here you will find a list of the Conditions used at Tenebrous Isles along with a description of what they're used for.

A Note Regarding All Conditions

Why do we have Conditions?:You might ask - 'Why a Limiter when power levels are already seemingly low?'. The answer is easy, the PCs played are not gods, nor are they Fae, nor are they super-heroes. They are the offspring of these, and still at least half, if not even more so, human. Humans are breakable. Especially when they reach beyond their own limitations to be more than just an average human.
  • Conditions are limiters to the amount of power a character can use (or abuse) before that power begins to take its toll on the character.
  • Just as wizards can use their magic on a small scale without cost or harm to themselves (lighting candles or changing water to ice in their ice box), non-wizards can also use their powers in the same way.
  • The rule here is that unless a character is creating a mechanical advantage to use in a GM'd scene or gaining some sort of advantage over another character in conflict, it is not necessary to mark your condition box.
  • The only exception to this rule would be when shapeshifting in non-GM'd scenes. Shapeshifting is limited to one occurrence every month, or every 24 hours with the required power. Every time a Shapeshifter changes their form they absolutely need to mark their Transformation condition, because it's a limitation whether they're in a GM'd scene or not.
Flavor is perfectly okay, so enjoy yourselves!

Changeling

Called: Mark one of this condition’s five boxes to use your PC's Fae Heritage power for a whole scene. These boxes will clear at a rate of 1 box per 2 weeks IRL, provided you do not use your Fae powers in that time frame. When all five are filled, you have three options:
  • Make the Choice to become fully Fae by using another Fae power. This will result in your PC becoming an NPC as True Fae are not an available PC mantle.
  • Deliberately shun your Fae Powers. You clear out the boxes at a rate of one per 2 weeks IRL. This means that you can go from having a full Called track to an empty one in 10 weeks, provided you do not use your powers in that time frame.
  • Choose to become fully mortal to immediately clear the track. You may no longer use your Fae powers, and you revert fully to a Pure Mortal Mantle after the scene.

Emissary of Power

Borrowed Power: Mark one of this condition’s five boxes to use your PC's Patron-given power for a whole scene. Each box clears due to specific requirements:
  • You can clear out the boxes at a rate of one per 2 weeks IRL. This means that you can go from having a full Borrowed Power track to an empty one in 10 weeks, provided you do not use your borrowed powers in that time frame.
  • Perform a task specifically at the behest of the patron that granted you the power. Level 1 boxes require a Mundane task, Level 2 boxes require a Supernatural task, Level 3 boxes require an Otherworldly task, Level 4 boxes require a Legendary task, and Level 5 boxes require a Godlike task.
  • Choose to become fully mortal to immediately clear the track. At any time you may choose to leave the pact with the Patron that gave your powers to you, and you revert fully to a Pure Mortal Mantle after the scene.

Faithful

Crisis of Faith: Check this condition if you significantly violate the tenets of your faith or misuse the power granted you. Additionally, if you denounce the object of your faith in any way or deny your faith in them, this condition must be marked (I.E. Claiming to not believe in God when you are a person of total faith in God). While this condition is marked all Powers of this mantle are unavailable. Recover this condition in the following ways:
  • Performing appropriate penance, per the GM.
  • This condition will automatically clear after 1 month IRL.

Jade Courtier

 Vampires Only:

Burned by Jade: In any scene where your flesh is pierced by a blade of Jade, you must accept this condition (which absorbs no shifts from an attack) in addition to other consequences you take on. In order for the Jade Blade to actually cause this condition, a fate point must be spent to ensure that the jade of the blade was harvested at the correct time/place/temperature to make it the opposite Yin or Yang of the person being stabbed.

  • While you are Burned by Jade, you may not recover from any other consequences reflecting physical injury. Recovery from this condition requires 4 weeks IRL.

 Both Vampires and Virgins:

Hungry: Mark one of this condition’s five boxes to power your Vampiric Powers. Each time you use a Vampiric Power in scene, you mark one box per power, per use. If you are taken out while Hungry, the consequences could be dire: the GM may determine that you embark on a feeding frenzy, killing nearby mortals but clearing the Hungry track immediately.

To otherwise clear Hungry, you must feed on someone’s energy: either touching your target or from a distance (If you have the necessary powers) and then make a successful mental attack. The subsequent feeding has three possible degrees of intensity:

  • Take a tiny amount from many sources over time. This is represented as the tracking boxes clearing at a speed of 1 per RL week. (This would be the Vegan route.)
  • Your victim takes a consequence representing physical harm. Clear two boxes for a Peril and four boxes for a Doomed. (Only to be used in the most dire of circumstances, because this will officially cause your PC to stop being a Vegan style Vampire. The first time this occurs the PC regaining Hungry boxes in this matter will have to permanently change one of their aspects to reflect this. The second time, the PC will be unplayable and will no longer be a PC.)
  • Your victim dies. Clear the Hungry track entirely.

Magic Users

Burned Out: Check this condition to give yourself a +2 boost to all magical actions for the rest of the scene. Alternatively, if your Exhausted condition is already checked, you can check this condition to allow a single spell to be treated as an Area of Effect (1 full zone) without having to split your shifts of success between targets. If Burned Out, you cannot use magic, period, until fully recovered. Begin recovery by eating, meditating, or otherwise deliberately resting as per the Exhausted condition.
  • Recover from being Burned Out fully after 3 weeks IRL.

Exhausted: Check this condition to give yourself a +4 boost to a single magical action. Alternatively you can check this condition to allow a single spell to be treated as an Area of Effect (1 full zone) without having to split your shifts of success between targets. Begin recovery by eating, meditating, or otherwise deliberately resting.

  • Recover from being Exhausted fully after 2 weeks IRL.

Indebted: Requires Magical Practitioner Mantle, requires White Court Membership Stunt. As a member wizard in good standing, once per month, you may contact the White Council to request assistance. The GM determines what aid, if any, is given and the cost thereof. You then mark the Indebted condition on your sheet; you must recover from the condition before again using the White Council Membership stunt. This condition refreshes after 1 month's time.

  • Recover from one level of Indebted after 1 month IRL.

Pure Mortal

No conditions exist specifically for Pure Mortals.

Red Court Infectee

Hungry: Mark one of this condition’s five boxes to power your Vampiric Powers. Each time you use a Vampiric Power in scene, you mark one box per power, per use. If you are taken out while Hungry, the consequences could be dire: the GM may determine that you embark on a feeding frenzy, killing nearby mortals but clearing the Hungry track immediately.

To otherwise clear Hungry, you must feed on someone’s blood: establish an advantage on your target (e.g., Grappled), and then make a successful attack. The subsequent feeding has three possible degrees of intensity:

  • Take a tiny amount from many sources over time. This is represented as the tracking boxes clearing at a speed of 1 per RL week. (This would be indicative of finding lots blood bags... It's not very satisfying.)
If you are a Red Court Infectee, this also counts as your necessary Kill to become a full Red Court Vampire and subsequently your PC becomes an NPC.

Scion

Called: Mark one of this condition’s five boxes to use your PC's Supernatural Heritage power for a whole scene. These boxes will clear at a rate of 1 box per 2 weeks IRL, provided you do not use your inherited powers in that time frame. When all five are filled, you have three options:
  • Make the Choice to become fully your Parent Supernatural Creature by using another Supernatural power. This will result in your PC becoming an NPC as full Supernatural Creatures are not an available PC mantle.
  • Deliberately shun your Supernatural Powers. You clear out the boxes at a rate of one per 2 weeks IRL. This means that you can go from having a full Called track to an empty one in 10 weeks, provided you do not use your inherited powers in that time frame.
  • Choose to become fully mortal to immediately clear the track. You may no longer use your Supernatural powers, and you revert fully to a Pure Mortal Mantle after the scene.

Shapeshifter and Werecreature

Physical Transformation: Mark this condition when changing into your animal form. Clothing and belongings on your person do not change with you. (The Shifting Adept stunt can be used to allow your clothing and other carried items to shift with you and remain undamaged.) It takes 4 weeks IRL to recover from checking this condition. (The Power Ready Transformation can change this and reduce the recovery from this Condition to being only 24 hours.) Shifting back to your native form does not require marking this condition. While this condition is checked, the following applies:
  • Take the 'Form of the [Animal]/[Alternate Form]' aspect in addition to your other aspects.
  • If you have purchased the Skill Shuffle power, your skills ratings may change.
  • You may only shift back to your native form. Shifting to another form will not be possible until the necessary recovery time frame has passed.

White Courtier

 Vampires Only:

Burned by True Emotion: In any scene where you are directly touched by someone displaying a pure, incorruptible, positive emotion, you must accept this condition (which absorbs no shifts from an attack) in addition to other consequences you take on. This display must go above and beyond the norm to qualify—someone standing up to you isn’t displaying True Courage unless they’re doing so in the face of guaranteed doom. The emotion that burns you is directly related to what you feed on—True Love for Raith, True Courage for Malvora, and True Hope for Skavis.

  • While you are Burned by True Emotion, you may not recover from any other consequences reflecting physical injury.

To otherwise clear Hungry, you must feed on someone’s emotion: either touching your target or from a distance (If you have the necessary powers) and then make a successful mental attack. The subsequent feeding has three possible degrees of intensity:

  • Take a tiny amount from many sources over time. This is represented as the tracking boxes clearing at a speed of 1 per RL week. (This would be the Vegan route.)
  • Your victim takes a consequence representing emotional or mental harm.
If you do kill a victim as a White Court Virgin, you then switch over to the full White Court Vampire mantle.
